Project Overview
The rehabilitation and replacement of the solids processing facilities at this 67-mgd advanced wastewater treatment plant allows Fairfax County to continue to provide reliable wastewater treatment for Virginia’s most populous county. Work included upgrading the existing Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) thickener system for waste activated sludge thickening, installing a new polymer system for waste activated sludge thickening, and incorporating new scum collection systems on primary and secondary clarifiers.
A unique construction sequencing approach shortened the schedule by three months and an emphasis on environmental considerations led to the implementation of a site-specific recycling program.
